The girls indoor track team won their state championship on Jan. 10, with a dominant performance, beating their competitors by 50 points across all events. The team has shown growth, improving from fourth place in 2023, to second in 2024, and just missing first in 2025.

The progressions fueled the team’s drive to capture the championship this year.

According to the head coach Phillisa Prescott, the team's success was built on having depth across every event group. “Senior Robin Tashjian anchored the sprint and hurdle point by earning 38 team points with three first place finishes in the 55m, 55m hurdles, and long jump, and a second place finish in the 300m. Sophomore Fiona Corbett added 24 points, and our distance runners led by seniors Sydney Remenar, who won both the two mile and the mile; Madelyn Harris, who won the 1000m; and Emily Harris, a part of the 4x800 team contributed another 48 points.”

Freshman Collette Dauchy also scored Burr and Burton’s first ever state championship points in the shot put.

The team’s relays also shined with the first place 4x800 relay featuring Madelyn Harris, Andie Hadeka, Sydney Remenar, and Emily Harris, who won the Bulldogs 10 points.

Reflecting on the season, Coach Prescott said one of her favorite moments was watching the team arrive at the state championship “calm and ready to compete.” The team’s preparation combined physical and mental strategies with event specific workouts, focusing on confidence, staying calm, and trusting their training while supporting each other.

BBA will continue competing in elite meets, including events at The Track at New Balance, Harvard, and the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York City. Team members Robin Tashjian, Fiona Corbett, Madelyn Harris,Sydney Remenar, Hayden Villarel, and the girls 4x800 team will represent Vermont at the New England Championships on February 28.

Reflecting on the indoor season, Prescott’s biggest takeaway was simple, “This stretch of elite competition is a strong launching point for what is sure to be a stellar outdoor season.”
