History Made in Overtime

Burr and Burton Academy’s boys varsity soccer team won their first-ever Division 1 state championship with an undefeated season. In a tense match against CVU, the game went into double overtime before sophomore Gavin Reece scored the game-winning goal.

The BBA boys varsity soccer team capped off an incredible season on Saturday, November 1, with a thrilling state championship victory over CVU. The Bulldogs went undefeated this year, claiming the John James Tournament title along the way. Their energy and teamwork were unmatched, keeping them at the top of the division from start to finish.

In the championship match at Virtue Field up at UVM, BBA battled CVU in a nailbiting hard-fought game that remained scoreless through regulation and the first overtime.

The deciding moment came in the second round of overtime, when sophomore Gavin Reece netted the game-winning goal. “I never would have thought I’d be in this situation at the end of the year,” Reece said, reflecting on the unforgettable moment.

This historic victory marks Burr and Burton’s first-ever Division 1 boys soccer championship. A truly remarkable achievement to conclude a monumental season.

“We all deserve it,” said Reece, “It’s a tribute to our seniors and captains who led us through this year.”
